Which Universities Offer Online MBA Programmes in India?
I have made this list as per the way I would have preferred for research for this: getting the actual fee pages, brochure for admission, and NIRF/NAAC rankings of all the universities instead of just copying whatever is available at the top on the internet for any university. MBA fee pages online keep changing from time to time, so I am going to give you the range of the fees along with the reasoning behind them, and I will be telling you where there are uncertainties with the figures.

Why an Online MBA Actually Makes Sense Right Now
There's one thing you don't see listed on any brochures: full-time MBA requires sacrificing two years' worth of salary, not to mention the chance to build seniority within your current organization. And if you are already five or ten years into your career and have mortgages or kids who depend on the money you earn now, giving that up is no easy decision.
Getting an online MBA means doing your studies and earning the degree without sacrificing your job. You'll attend lectures during your commute, do assignments once your kid falls asleep, and take exams on weekends. It takes longer and is generally more difficult to motivate oneself – no one will check if you've been attending classes. But for certain kinds of professionals working and studying full-time, it is practically the only way to get an advanced degree in management.
But there's something else to be wary of: all of the online MBAs described above are fully legitimate and follow the curriculum for 2 years with four semesters and include proctored exams. Six-month MBA without taking any courses is simply not a valid degree; you will just become a victim of a diploma mill.
What You Should Check Before Shortlisting Any University
UGC-DEB Entitlement and Accreditation
This is the one entry on the list that is non-negotiable. The UGC Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB) should give an explicit entitlement for the university to conduct their distance learning programmes as something distinct from their on-campus programs. In the absence of this entitlement, the degree could lead to some serious complications when applying for jobs with the government, or pursuing studies overseas, or sometimes even verifying employment eligibility within the company’s human resources department. Combine this entitlement with NAAC accreditation (A+ or A++ would be ideal) and verify from the UGC-DEB website directly.
The Real Fee, Not Just the Advertised One
I experienced this frequently during my research on the following universities; the headline cost and the real cost never matched. An MBA programme that is priced 'starting from Rs. 90,000' may end up being Rs. 1,05,000 after including the cost of registration, exam, and project cost for the last semester. Other universities charge extra for certain specializations (Business Analytics, Fintech, Data Science) compared to the regular MBA programme and that may be between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000.
Specializations on Offer
A more number of specializations doesn’t necessarily mean good. The number of specializations available in Chandigarh University goes beyond 20 whereas in NMIMS the numbers don't go beyond 5 to 7. It means that if you are not sure of your preferences, you have got a bigger pool to choose from; however, having a bigger number also means that the university is using its core faculty for teaching a greater number of specializations. Find out about the number of students enrolled in a specialization like Aviation Management for instance.
Placement and Career Support
This is where marketing language does maximum damage. "Career assistance" in an advertisement can imply a full-fledged career cell conducting practice interviews and introducing you to real recruiters, or it can refer to sending you a PDF of a CV template via email once you have graduated. Demand some details about how many firms came to see the last year's MBA class virtually, what the median and not maximum package was, and whether they can put you in touch with an alumni of the program for an honest chat. If not, then take their placements with a pinch of salt.
Universities Offering Online MBA Programmes in India
Something to keep in mind before we move on to the cost estimates: fee estimates mentioned below are just ranges that have been taken directly from each institution’s respective admission websites and leaflets in the 2026 admission cycle. These are subject to changes based on scholarship periods, specialization, and method of payment (whether in lump sum or per semester), so consider these rough estimates only.
Manipal University (Online Manipal)
Available from Manipal University Jaipur along with the same programmes from other two campuses of Sikkim and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), this 2 year (4 semesters) MBA programme has 13 to 20 specializations according to different campuses' brochures. Fees for the programme range anywhere from ₹1.75 lakh to ₹1.80 lakh with EMI option of about ₹7,300 per month. The programme is a UGC-DEB entitled course and also has NAAC accreditation. It has a placement cell which provides assistance in resume making and interview preparation, although the effectiveness of these facilities apparently depends greatly upon the specialization and campus where one is pursuing his/her studies.
Amity University Online
Amity's online MBA program also spans 2 years, across 4 semesters. The number of specializations offered by this program is pretty high, ranging between 12 and 18, depending upon the source and year, and it even has an ACCA-accredited specialization in International Finance, which is quite uncommon for such courses. The fees for normal specializations stand at about ₹1.99 lakhs, and that of the newer dual specialization program at ₹2.99 lakhs. Amity is accredited by WES and QAA, which is definitely going to be helpful if you plan to work or study abroad in the future. It's amongst the more expensive programs in this list, but it certainly carries weight in metropolitan cities.
Lovely Professional University (LPU Online)
The LPU's MBA program is spread across 2 years, with the option to extend it up to 4 years if required. It falls on the lower side when considering a prestigious private university program, usually ranging from ₹1.46 lakh to ₹1.80 lakh based on the kind of scholarships available when applying to the program (LPU provides 20% student scholarship that significantly alters the cost factor). There are a total of 9 to 12 specializations offered, with rare specializations such as Hospital & Healthcare Management.
Chandigarh University Online
When it comes to the number of specializations that can be pursued, the clear choice for Chandigarh University is the best bet to make since it gives somewhere between 23 to 26 choices with dual specialization. The basic fee comes out to be ₹2.20 lakh. However, with early bird scholarship discounting 18% to 25% depending upon the number of value-added certificates chosen, the net amount falls somewhere between ₹1.65 lakh to ₹1.80 lakh. This course lasts for 2 years with 4 semesters in total and is also NAAC A+ accredited.
Uttaranchal University Online
It is among the most affordable legitimate programs. 2-year program with 8-9 specializations with costs averaging ₹94,000 to ₹98,000 with early bird scholarship discounts (costs around ₹1.4 lakh without discounts). NAAC A+ rated and UGC-DEB approved. It is not as recognizable as Amity and NMIMS, and I could not find any external independent and detailed information regarding placements (other than what the university claims itself), so if your career is important for you, then you better ask all necessary questions beforehand.
NMIMS (NGA-SCE)
NMIMS conducts its MBA programme via its Centre for Distance and Online Education and is commonly compared to IIM-affiliated courses due to its NIRF management program ranking and BFSI and consulting recruiter reputation. The total fee for this 2-year programme is ₹1.96 lakhs, paid one-time, or ₹2.20 lakhs on a semester-wise basis. There are fewer specializations offered (around 5-7 options: Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations and Data Science, Business Management), which is an actual downside when compared to what is offered by Chandigarh and Amity universities. As compensation, you will be able to get placements from the pool of recruiting firms said to consist of more than 500 organizations, although I would recommend asking for a specific batch report regarding placements.

GLA University Online
GLA belongs to the budget category with overall costs ranging from ₹97,000 to ₹1.05 lakh for the whole two-year course. It provides 8 to 12 majors including HRM, Finance, Marketing, Business Analytics, Information Technology Management, and Logistics & Supply Chain. NAAC A grade and UGC-DEB approved. The placement setup is less developed than that of the larger private institutions featured here. However, this fact doesn’t make the program unsuitable; it just means that your reliance on current students' testimonies should be higher than usual.
IGNOU
IGNOU happens to be the oldest institution in this list and the cheapest as well. It offers an MBA program through both distance education and online programs which is priced between ₹58,000-₹68,000, depending on the mode chosen and the electives taken and takes a minimum of 2 years but can be stretched till 4 or even 5 years. The elective options available at IGNOU, particularly after the third and fourth semesters, are quite many, spanning from topics like Banking & Finance, Disaster Management, Retail, etc. The cost comes at the expense of a lot of things, and IGNOU, unlike other private universities, does not have a proper and centralized placement cell. It is a course which is designed for those people who have a certain agenda in mind while taking this course.

How to Actually Pick One
If Money Is Tight
IGNOU, Uttaranchal, and GLA are the three realistic choices in this case. All three provide genuine UGC approval, and what you save can be utilized in obtaining certifications, purchasing a laptop, or not getting into debts for a part-time degree program.
If You Need the Brand Name
NMIMS and Amity enjoy a lot more clout in interview chambers, especially in BFSI, consulting, and corporate jobs located in metro cities. You will pay almost twice as much as IGNOU, but in some careers, the cost will definitely be worth the extra money you paid after two years.
If You Want Maximum Choice in Specializations
Both the Chandigarh University and Manipal provide extensive lists of electives, with newer specializations such as Business Analytics and Fintech included as well. This would be ideal for you if you have not yet decided on a specialization path.
Mistakes People Keep Making With This Decision
The most prevalent one: opting for the least expensive fee without verifying UGC-DEB eligibility first. Just that one mistake can silently diminish the worth of your degree in the long run, particularly when applying for jobs in the government sector or studying abroad. Second: choosing a specialization based solely on how up-to-date its title sounds ("AI and Business Analytics" is very appealing at the moment), without bothering to read the syllabus PDF to find out if it is a fresh course, or simply the same MBA courses in disguise.
Conclusion
This question doesn't have a single right answer and those articles which promise that are misleading. Cost-wise, IGNOU and Uttaranchal would suffice without making holes in your pockets. For those looking for an impressive name in BFSI or consultancy interviews, NMIMS and Amity should be considered regardless of the additional cost. For those who are trying to figure out their specializations, it makes sense to go with Chandigarh or Manipal. What is really important is not the name itself, but completing some tedious homework like checking for UGC-DEB recognition on the official website, receiving an itemized fee sheet in writing and admitting to yourself if you will find time to study at weekends, when there is no one to take attendance.
